Ardbeg's special festival bottling for Fèis Ìle 2024 is now here!
Bottled in celebration of Ardbeg Day 2024 (on June 1st), Ardbeg Spectacular is the annual special release from this cult Islay distillery and, is part-aged in Port casks - the first such official bottling from Ardbeg.
The single malt Scotch whisky was part matured in Port Wine casks before it was then married with classic bourbon cask matured Ardbeg and bottled at 46%. Complex, bold and beautifully balanced, Spectacular is an Ardbeg Day bottling worth celebrating. Although not profoundly long, this is Ardbeg boasting depth and richness plus a bit of spunk and attitude.
Bill Lumsden, Head of Whisky Creation for Ardbeg and Glenmorangie, has come up with some unforgettable single malts in his time but this latest release might just take the (fruit) cake. Lumsden described it as: “This is a helter skelter of flavours! Totally weird and absolutely spectacular. This is a freaky whisky!”
Nose
Perfumed and aromatic, with notes of lavender followed by leather, woodsmoke, mint and an almond nuttiness.
Palate
Full and oily with a salty menthol freshness and woodsmoke with sweeter notes of toffee, apple crumble and fudge.
Finish
Long and lingering with leather, salted caramel and that minty note persisting.
(Following feedback from Ardbeg Committee members about the overwhelming number of Committee releases, Ardbeg will now be shifting to just one Ardbeg Day bottling from this year onwards, as opposed to the previous practise of a Committee AND a general release special bottling released for Ardbeg Day in past years)
