A new release from Ardnamurchan distillery in 2024, this unpeated single malt was first aged for 6 years in ex-Bourbon barrels before a secondary maturation of 30 months in Sauternes wine barriques.
Sauternes AOC is a French sweet wine from the region of the same name in the Graves section in Bordeaux. Sauternes wine is made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes that have been affected by Botrytis cinerea, also known as noble rot. This causes the grapes to become partially raisin-ed, resulting in concentrated and distinctively flavoured wines with a sweet, aromatic and gently oaky character.
Ardnamurchan’s bright and spicy spirit character pairs beautifully with the fruity and nutty flavours coming from the Sauternes cask in this small batch release of 5990 bottles.
The sweet white wine influence brings aromas of apricot and almond tart, wildflower honey and golden sultanas. On the palate an earthier, more savoury edge keeps things grounded and leads nicely into a long, dry finish.
