Ardnamurchan has once again shown its flair for combining bold peat with inventive cask work. This limited 2025 release sees peated spirit initially matured for three years in ex-bourbon casks before spending a further three and a half years in Sauternes barriques. Bottled at 50% ABV, it delivers decadence and balance in equal measure.
Sauternes AOC is a French sweet wine from the region of the same name in the Graves section in Bordeaux. Sauternes wine is made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes that have been affected by Botrytis cinerea, also known as noble rot. This causes the grapes to become partially raisin-ed, resulting in concentrated and distinctively flavoured wines with a sweet, aromatic and gently oaky character.
Ardnamurchan’s bright and spicy spirit character pairs beautifully with the fruity and nutty flavours coming from the Sauternes cask in this small batch release of 8460 bottles.
