An exceptional cask of single malt Scotch whisky bottled by the team at Little Brown Dog. This limited edition bottling distilled at the Arran (Lochranza) distillery in 2009 was matured in a St. Emilion Barrique for it's entire life, before being bottled in 2023 at it's natural cask strength of 56.3% ABV.
We love an Arran here and this one is rather unique, in a good way! This has undergone a full maturation in a refill cask yet it is not death by wine. What makes this one even more interesting is that it is from the first unpeated distillation, after a peated run, so it used the peated low wines and feints from the previous distillation but from an unpeated mash. It’s therefore got this incredibly gentle peaty background that has softened with age.
Back in 2009, there was both peated and unpeated malt used for distillation at Arran (Lochranza) - a practise that has now been discontinued since the opening of the Lagg distillery at the South end of the island in 2019.
The marbled label depicts Hutton’s unconformity, a geological discovery made on Arran, fully conforming with the geeky side of the chaps at Little Brown Dog Spirits.
Colour: Maple Syrup
Nose: Plum jam, raspberry jelly, embers of a doused fire
Palate: Barbequed pineapple, chocolate digestives, lucky tatties
Finish: Signature Arran white pepper and light surprise peat.
