A smouldering maple syrup glazed barbecue by the sea shore best describes this 2012 Caol Ila single malt from indie bottler Carn Mor, matured in oloroso sherry butts for 8 years, before being bottled in 2021 as part of its Strictly Limited series.
It's young, feisty, dirty, meaty, salty, fruity, spicy and chocolatey all at once. Not so much peaty though, as it is smoky. The palate offers bold notes of peat smoke, lemons, apricots, plums, tobacco and smouldering driftwood that linger in the finish.
1365 bottles of which only a handful are still around and even those won't last for too long.
