Macallan 13 Year Old 2010 PX Sherry Single Cask, Little Brown Dog

This is LBD at their wryest best, tongue-firmly-in-cheek, with a wonderful Pedro Ximénez sherry cask finished single malt distilled at a very prestigious yet UnnaMed Speyside distillery for their very ironic Extra Value Range! 

Given the naming restrictions that came with the cask, they were not allowed to name the distillery explicitly on the label. Another fairly common-place Scotch Whisky idiosyncrasy, casks are sold to blenders, traders and independent bottlers without naming rights for various reasons, including to prevent them from competing with the distillery's official bottlings.

All of that, however, does not prevent them from dropping hints and references galore to the distillery in question. And they have not been subtle here. This is obviously a Macallan, they even geotagged the old still house where this would have been distilled: ///smiled.apart.twisty and fittingly had a Teletubby video to accompany the launch.

Even the White Label and Extra Value Range branding is a humorous reaction to the hyperpremiumisation and overmarketing of Macallan, and definitely meant in jest.

Apart from all the marketing elements on the label, or the lack of it in this case, the whisky inside is a classic old school robust malt distilled in 2010, matured partly in European Oak and partly in American Oak, before finishing in a 1st Fill Pedro Ximénez sherry cask. 

This single cask was bottled at it's cask strength of 57.9% in 2023, producing only 326 bottles. Non-chill filtered with no added colour.

Colour: Cold Brew Arabica 

Nose: Kirsch chocolate liqueurs, plums and honeysuckle

Palate: Clootie Dumpling, cashew nuts and Ethiopian coffee

Finish: Orange zest, cognac and nutmeg
