An utterly divine single cask of Port Charlotte that comes along with a hugely life-affirming story to pair with the exceptional liquid.
This cask of Port Charlotte – distilled at Bruichladdich distillery in 2004 – was personally selected by whisky legend and distiller Jim McEwan for the original owner, who bought it to prove to himself he was going to beat cancer. And he did!
18 years later he sold the cask to the lads at Little Brown Dog, despite being offered much more from a broker, as he wanted the whisky to be in the hands of whisky drinkers!
Fully matured in a refill bourbon hogshead for 18 years, this is a phenomenal example of a well aged heavily peated Port Charlotte spirit which dazzles with its technical quality, complexity and maturity. Port Charlotte single casks of this age are very rare and hard to find, so we're super excited for this delightful single cask release.
Port Charlotte is one of three, distinct, spirit ranges produced at the Bruichladdich Distillery on the Rhinns of Islay, alongside the unpeated Bruichladdich and super-heavily peated Octomore. Created by then distiller Jim McEwan, after resurrecting Bruichladdich in 2001, this heavily peated Islay single malt, known for its strong 40 PPM peat level and distinct maritime influence, is a homage to the lost Port Charlotte distillery, also known as Lochindaal, which was operational on Islay between 1829 and 1929.
Only 270 bottles were filled at the natural cask strength of 51.5%, of which these are the last remaining available globally.
