Sazerac Straight Rye Whiskey

Sazerac Rye is a 90-proof Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery, in a tribute to the historic New Orleans coffee house which was the birthplace of America's first branded cocktail. One of America's most iconic Rye Whiskeys, this award-winning rye whiskey is celebrated for its vibrant spice, rich complexity and exceptionally smooth finish.

Sazerac Rye symbolises the tradition and history of New Orleans during the mid-1800s, when saloons, veiled as Coffee Houses, began lining the streets. It traces its origins back to the historic Sazerac Coffee House, founded on Royal Street in 1850, where local patrons were served toddies made with Rye Whiskey (in place of French brandy), a dash of Peychaud’s Bitters, and Herbsaint. The libation became known as the “Sazerac” and America’s first branded cocktail was born with Sazerac Rye as its original ingredient. Now produced at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, Sazerac Rye perfectly captures the heritage and tradition of New Orleans while showcasing the craftsmanship of one of the world's most respected whiskey distilleries.

Crafted with a high rye mash bill, it delivers a spicy, complex profile balanced with an approachable sweetness that has made it a favourite among bartenders, collectors, and whiskey enthusiasts alike. Its versatility makes it equally enjoyable neat, over ice or as the foundation of classic whiskey cocktails, such as in a Manhattan, especially with Carpano's Antica Formula vermouth, as well as in a Sazerac - the very cocktail which gave it it's name.

TASTING NOTES:

Nose:Bright aromas of rye spice, cracked black pepper, clove, anise and cinnamon are complemented by sweet vanilla, caramel, citrus peel, mint and toasted oak.

Palate: Rich and lively with flavours of honey, butterscotch, caramel and vanilla layered alongside classic rye spice, cloves, nutmeg, liquorice and hints of orange zest. The 45% ABV provides excellent body while maintaining an exceptionally smooth and approachable character.

Finish: A long, crisp and warming finish with lingering notes of black pepper, cinnamon, oak spice, vanilla and gentle herbal freshness.
